A DIOR DISPATCH

I lived vicariously last evening through my friend and former Guest Curator for The Wonderlyst, Gemma Lacey, who attended the Dior Cruise show at the new David Geffen Galleries at LACMA. She agreed to give us her take on the show, straight from the (almost) front row.

“ Jonathan Anderson’s debut for Dior is far more than a Hollywood love letter. From the thimbles and tape measures he elevated into icons, to the vintage cars and LACMA setting that invited his audience into a fully realised world, to the glitter-infused tweed, poetry-embroidered shirts and chiffon that swept the catwalk with cinematic flair, everything speaks to a designer who understands that fashion, at its best, is world-building. He makes the utilitarian magical, the familiar subversive, and the serious joyful, and in doing so, reminds us why it all matters.”

BABY GRAND HOTEL

An old, unloved motor lodge transformed into a mystical playground. A hidden champagne and oyster bar, clamshell-shaped beds, hidden lagoons, an indoor beach, plus-sized plant life, an open-fire Greek restaurant, mosaic floors, mirrored walls, maximalist wallpaper, and not a TV in sight. This place reminds me of how I felt when I first stepped into Ian Schrager’s Delano Hotel in South Beach, Miami. This is the Baby Grand Hotel, and I can’t wait to get there. PS - their website is awesome.
