THE HOTELS ABOVE PAR NEWSSTAND

I may have mentioned before that I love a newsstand. There’s a new one in town, albeit temporarily, so if you love them too, head to Palihouse West Hollywood soon. The pop-up is hosted by Hotels Above Par, the digital and print publication devoted to boutique hotels around the world, so naturally the selection leans heavily toward travel. You can pick up the latest issues of Yolo Journal, Konfekt, Dossier, Monocle, and more, all arranged beside glossy hotel books and assorted travel ephemera. Newsstands really are one of life’s great pleasures.

WATCHLYST: GAUCHO GAUCHO & TUNER

There is a 2024 documentary and a new film release to consider for your watchlyst. I was immediately interested in Gaucho Gaucho when I learned it came from the filmmakers behind The Truffle Hunters (essential viewing, in my opinion). It shares the story of a community of cowboys and cowgirls in Argentina known as Gauchos. It is a beautiful film that has a noir-meets Wes Anderson feel. You can watch it on Jolt, a streaming platform for independent films (a portion of your rental fee goes to the filmmaker). If you feel like going to the theater and seeing Leo Woodall (always a good idea), Tuner looks really good. The film is about Niki (Leo Woodall) and Harry (Dustin Hoffman), piano tuners for rich New Yorkers. Niki discovers that his acute sensitivity to sound lends itself to a new skill: safecracking. A heist seems inevitable.

MORE WONDER BRINGERS (A FEW TO START…)

A LOOK Of course, I am watching a quiet Welsh mystery about crime-solving sheep • A LISTEN The Decostruttori Postmodernisti perform Erik Satie’s Gnossienne no.1, where you can discover the theremin, an instrument played without physical contact (this part starts at about 50 seconds) • A TASTE Blue Raspberry? Lemon? Cinnamon? This genius online candy store lets you shop by your favorite flavor
