MODULAR SOUNDS
I love discovering new (to me) music, and I’ll follow any thread that leads me there. My latest find came by way of Nick Wakeman, founder of Studio Nicholson. She designs those quietly perfect pieces that feel both timeless and intentional, rooted in the precision of Japanese tailoring. Turns out, she also has excellent taste in music. Modular Sounds is a running series of “non-negotiable” tracks from the Studio Nicholson team and their circle—each playlist a mix of mood and mystery. The latest one is from a favorite of mine, Hania Rani, but most are curated by people I’d never heard of before, full of songs I didn’t know I needed. I’m especially taken with the one from designer and writer Josh Itiola. Sidenote: the Studio Nicholson blog is its own kind of rabbit hole, in the best way.
WOMEN & THE WIND
I have been waiting to share this documentary with you until there was an available screening, and finally, the time is right. This weekend, you can watch Women & the Wind, which follows three women sailing a 50-year-old wooden catamaran from North Carolina to the Azores, tracing the path of plastic across the Atlantic. One of the crew had never sailed before and filmed the journey herself, capturing both the beauty and the harshness of the ocean in equal measure. The film is part of the work of the Women & the Wind Foundation, a nonprofit supporting women-led environmental projects and first-time expeditions that often go unfunded. I am so inspired by these fearless women, who believe in the urge to find wonder. I will be watching it for sure.
