THE MISSING POST OFFICE
The short film The Missing Post Office brings you to Awashima Island in Japan’s Seto Inland Sea, where an abandoned post-office building has been transformed into a sanctuary for letters with nowhere else to go. Since its opening, the project has received over 60,000 letters addressed to the deceased, to younger selves, to long-lost pets, to moments we wished we’d said something. Guided by 91-year-old former postmaster Katsuhisa Nakata, the place invites anyone to read a message, take one home if it speaks to them, or leave one of their own. This is such a beautiful and moving story - you can watch it here
THIS DAY HAPPENED
Gia Marie is the reason I recently pulled out a tray of pastels long hidden away in a cabinet. Earlier this year, she began a daily practice called This Day Happened, which she documents on Instagram. I find everything about it inspiring—the raw canvas taped to her table, the soft haze of pastels, the careful removal of tape that leaves a delicate fringe, the handwritten date, and the quiet square frame that holds it all together. Most of all, I love her devotion to creating something beautiful every single day. As Gia says, this ritual is “a way to hold onto the day as it passes.” One day, I’d love to commission a piece for a date that means something to me. Her October works will be available tomorrow.
